THURSDAY NIGHT SINGLES UTR 7&8s (4.5 Men) SESSION 4 TENNIS TALK
Tonight's highlight was meeting and playing with Alex Heller. A strong tennis player and looking forward to him getting better and better in the next 5 weeks with us as he gets used to the courts and club. Super nice guy too!
Brett and Adam squared off and Brett found his A+ game in sets 2 and 3 while Brian and Logan had a very close battle.
Fun night of tennis and Tom looked great in his Run DMC outfit.
Barry/Brett classic classic match: Barry = 9 games, Brett = 9 games.
Great seeing both Karen and Phil there tonight. This coming week we are back to 3 full courts and we welcome Alex for the first time!
This week Brett and John squared off again and it was John's last indoor week! Sorry to see you go so soon, but lots of outside tennis this summer! Brett's serve is heating up as well.
Barry and Garret did the late night thing with 31 close games. A huge workout with insane points. Lots of things hitting the ground as well.
We are no longer 4 courts for the rest of the season and are very excited for Alec Heller will be starting on Thursday nights soon.
Week #6 was highlited by a lot of tennis and a visitor. Kian (UTR=9) visited us from 25 minutes away on Long Island. He plays tennis for Loyola (Freshman) in Maryland, and is home on Spring break looking to get revenge on Barry for a Finals loss in October. He sure did! Nice patience and win Kian and you can always join us on Thursdays when you want.
On the other courts, Brett and Garret played into 3 sets and Garret was getting stronger and becoming more dangerous as the night went on. Watch out for Garret. Adam and John had an interesting score line with Adam starting to completely turn things around in Set #3, and Logan and Pete had a similar situation with 2 great sets of tennis.
If you are ever wondering who you are playing just check the web page like 2 days before the night- they are usually locked in by then unless there is a cancellation. Thanks Tom for making all 8 guys feel comfortable like always.
This coming week has 3 open spots if anyone wants to add in.
The last day of February brought an exciting week #5. Brett and Adam took the "show court," and Brett showed why he is so tough to beat. Lots of running and sweating from both Brett and Adam and no broken glass! Nice match. Great to have John in this week and his serve and volley technique was challenging and always fun to play 3 sets. The match of the night was Brian and Garret. It was Brian's first week and Garret pounding with his new sticks. The difference? just 1 game. Nice playing everyone.
This coming week #6 we are all booked with 4 courts (8 guys!). There are still 23 openings for the season.
FYI: Valentina is out as she is having her second baby with Federico. Congrats! (I am changing the name back to Thur 4.5 Men's Tennis.)
Love was surely in the air tonight as we had a great group of guys on this Valentine's Tennis night. Of course that included all the love Tom shows when you walk in the door, preparing the courts, regulating the temperature, and sharing intimate stories. There were no "Love sets," but some great tennis.
On court 2, Pete squared off with Young Garret and his new sticks. They slugged it out with many baseline rallies and split sets. They decided to go to a breaker and the total difference in the night was just 2 games. Nice even match up!
Brett and Mike L took the show court (while Tom closely took note of Brett's feet). Brett showed why he is the man on Park on Thursdays. Looking forward to much more of Mike L on the courts.
Thanks Sylvain for filling in and always LOVE playing and hanging with you.
Another Thursday night full of great matches. The highlite was Brett and John on "Center Court," with two very close intense sets. Both guys have a long history playing each other and this was another fierce battle like always. Brett is becoming unstoppable.
Valentina made her Season 4 debut and started out absolutely on fire and continued from how she ended Season 3. Glad she is back and hope to see more of Valentina.
Logan and Adam met up for the first time and enjoyed 3 sets with Logan getting stronger and stronger as the night went on.
Reminder: this coming Thursday is Valentine's Day, so if you are scheduled to play and there is an issue, please tell me ASAP. There are 2 openings if anyone wants.
What an incredible and jam packed night of Thursday Singles tennis. We had 4 courts going for the first time and many first and guest appearances.
Mike D filled in and went head-to-head with Brett showing Brett why he is such a tough college player point after point for 2 sets. Glad to see that Mark filled in as well and him and Logan had a battle decided by just one game in the end. Mike and Logan both had wins representing the Park Ave staff!
John and Garret went at it and John is getting his best form back. Hope to see Garret back in some weeks.
Federico also made a scheduled appearance and played tough for 2.5 sets of fun tennis. Hope we see much more of Federico on Thursdays this season.
Tom did a terrific job with the heat and especially getting all the balls around the court up which makes things much faster during the match. Thanks for everything you do to make this a perfect night.
This coming Thursday 2/7, we have 3 courts filled which means 2 openings if you want. Just text me if you want to play.
The start of SEASON 4 was awesome with a lot going on. To begin, Barry and Brett had another classic matchup with only a few games deciding the difference. Brett edged Barry out and there were some crazy points. Mike Leffler met John for the first time and despite John starting slowly, they had a tight tie-breaker in the 2nd and Mike is showing his increasing skills each week. So glad he is with us. John is like a wall whenever he plays.
Speaking of a wall, Garret and Adam played. Garret met the wall while trying some new frames but he seems to be ok. Adam continues to show his A game.
Thanks Tom for another wonderful start to a new Season. We have 4 courts, so please keep your eye on the schedule and add any plays if available. There are 30 spots open.
The stats on the League page now has Lifetime Record for players since they started at Park Ave on Thurs nights. That is interesting to see.
Looking forward to hearing from Phil when he returns from the USTA Tennis Campus in Orlando!
